Issue 7: Week 7, Term 1 2024
Principal's Message - Karere a te Tumuaki
Kia ora koutou - I hope you have all had a great week. My weekend was particularly adventurous as you can see from the photos below! My family spent the weekend celebrating my sister's 40th birthday at the Lake Taupō Holiday Resort and we decided to stop at the Taupō Bungy and Sky Swing on the way home on Sunday. My 12 year old neice was desperate to do the Sky Swing, and with none of my sisters, brothers-in-law, husband or mother prepared to step up..... I took on the mantle of 'Cool Aunty' once again!! Next thing I know, Emily and my niece were off on a tandom swing too - she must get her daredevil genes from me 😅. It really was an amazing experience that I can highly recommend, and set in a beautiful part of our country too (for the daredevils out there in our community!).
On to more serious things, I want to thank everyone for attending our Learner Led Conferences on Wednesday last week. I have had some really positive feedback so far regarding the change of structure and format (thank you to those people for sharing their thoughts with me either in person or by email - I really appreciate it). I thought it might be a good time to get a gauge on how the wider community found it. So if you have a couple of minutes to spare, please fill out this super quick survey for us - Link to survey.
On the sporting front, congratulations to our swimmers who made it through to Counties last Friday - Elizabeth C, Daniel P, Grace M, Charlie T, Aliyah M and Deeann C. A special congratulations to Daniel P who moves on to the Inter-Zone comp next Wednesday for the 50m Breaststroke (an awesome achievement!). This week we look forward to almost 40 of our Year 5&6 students heading off to the ECCS Football Funday with Mr Dyer and Miss Agate at McLennan Park. And to top the EOTC calendar off for the week, our Junior Team are looking forward to their trip to Clarks Beach this Friday (if we need to postpone, parents will be informed tomorrow, so keep an eye on Hero).
This Monday also saw our Junior Kapa Haka group kick off with their tutor Whaea Breize and they all really enjoyed their first session (as did I). In fact, Ms Sylva, Miss Cheyne and myself also learnt something new about our favourite kiwi anthem 'Tutira Mai Nga Iwi' - if you're interested, come and ask if you spot one of us and we can tell you about it.
And that's about it from me apart from my plea to come along to the PTA AGM meeting next Wednesday (March 20th) at 7pm if you are able to - ka kite and enjoy the rest of the week ahead.
