Issue 29: Week 10, Term 3 2025
Principal's Message - Karere a te Tumuaki

Kia ora e te whānau,
What a way to finish Term 3 – with the pinnacle event of our school and community calendar, our 2025 Ag Day!
Despite the challenging weather, it was an absolutely amazing event and a true testament to the spirit of Karaka School. This year we raised an incredible $46,000 – a phenomenal effort (just slightly under last year’s $48.5K total). We are tremendously grateful to everyone who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make the day possible. A very special mention must go to the students (and their families!) who have spent the past few months rearing an animal for Ag Day - I think this photo of Luca S and his gorgeous lamb Sudzy really sums it up. On a personal note, I’ve now experienced first-hand just how much work, commitment, and love goes into the process – and just how special it is to be a part of it. Ka mau te wehi!
Adding to the sense of celebration this week has been Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori. It has been wonderful to see our tamariki and staff embracing the use of te reo in classrooms and around the school, showing that every little effort makes a big difference in keeping our beautiful language alive.
This Thursday we are really looking forward to the Middle Team Poetry Recitals in the Hall. It will be extra special with our friends from Summerset Retirement Village joining us for the performances and then staying on for a cup of tea and catch-up with their Middle Team pen pals afterwards.
Finally, a reminder that we will wrap up the term with a fun school assembly this Friday at 1:45pm. I warmly invite whānau to come along and celebrate the end of a massive term with us.
Thank you again for all of your support across Term 3 – it has been huge! Good luck to the Black Ferns as they head into the Semi-Final of the World Cup this Saturday (thank goodness they were able to lift our spirits after the Ab's defeat to South Africa on Saturday night).
I hope you all enjoy a safe and happy holiday break with your families, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed for Term 4.
Ngā mihi nui,
Anna Powrie
