Principal's Message - Karere a te Tumuaki

Kia ora everyone.
Just a short message from me this week.
A heart felt thank you to Mr Dyer, Mrs Withers, Mrs Fell, the staff and the Board for supporting me while on leave this week due to the passing of my father-in-law. It is a huge comfort to know I work in such an amazing school with a great team and a wonderful community, and that I can step away when it is needed. While it has been a tough week, the morning walks with our dog on Whangamata beach have also been lovely moments of quiet and reflection.
Mihi aroha ki a koe and I'll see you back at school next week.
Board of Trustees
Congratulations to our new Board!
Nominations for the Karaka School Board election has now closed and as the number of nominations received was equal to the number of vacancies the election does not need to continue to a vote. The Karaka School Board received a total of five nominations for five vacancies when nominations closed on 6th August.
The following candidates are elected to the Karaka School Board and take office on 13th August -
- Sarah Sutherland
- Brad Harvey
- Chloe Gotty
- Natalie Allan
- Harj Dhindsa
We would like to congratulate those who were nominated and have joined our board.
We would also like to congratulate John Dyer who has continued on as our Staff Representative on the board, elected unopposed.
Thank you to all of our whanau and families who took part in the school board elections this year.
We would like to acknowledge our past Board members Lisa Tate, Tyrone Riley and Hayley Govorko and thank them for all their support, guidance, time and energy that they have put into the board over many years. Your support of the school is invaluable.

School Uniform
As a staff, we have noticed we are battling more and more with students wearing non-regulation uniform items. We understand that the weather is pretty cold and miserable at this time of the year, however, we do still need to maintain our high standards and encourage students to wear the correct uniform.
Black or navy socks have also made way for other colourful and pretty designs - please also keep an eye on this, as well as any colourful hair accessories.
Arguably, the most important thing to remember though, is to name your uniform items to prevent them from being forever lost in the never ending pit that we call our Lost Property Box.
