Principal's Message - Karere a te Tumuaki

Kia orana and happy Cook Islands Language Week!
This morning, Mr Dyer and I went to Drury School to support Max N and Izna K at the HPA Rehu Tai Speech competition. Izna won the Year 5&6 competition and will go on to represent our cluster at the Auckland finals on Wednesday 27th of August. Congratulations also to Max who came in a close second in the Year 7&8 competition. They both did a phenomenal job and represented our school with such mana - we couldn't have been more proud.
Last week we had three school teams take part in the Beautification Trust’s annual Wearable Arts competition. Their incredible creations wowed the judges and looked absolutely stunning on stage at the Due Drop Centre on Thursday night. We were so proud of the way our students represented our school with such confidence and flair. You can see some of their professional photos from the judging day below — the outfits really are something to celebrate! A huge thank you to Mrs Christensen and her team of dedicated parents who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes over the past few months — your hard mahi does not go unnoticed.
A quick Reminder About Morning Drop-Off :
We've noticed an increasing number of students being dropped off before 8:15am, which is before school officially opens for supervision. If your child arrives early, please ensure they wait in the designated area — by the Flagpole if the weather is fine, or outside on the Kōkako deck if it’s raining. The only students who have permission to be at school in the Boardroom before this time are the students who catch the morning bus to school. So please do not send children (or walk with them) to classrooms to put their bags away before this time. It’s important that we all stick to the same process to keep things consistent and safe for everyone.
Mark your calendars! Our awesome PTA is hosting a Movie Night in the Hall on Friday 15th August — it’s always a popular event and a fun way for tamariki to spend an evening with friends (while parents maybe sneak off for a quiet coffee!). Keep an eye out for more details coming home soon.
Best of luck to our runners heading to the Counties Cross Country event this Friday with Mrs Collie. We can’t wait to hear how you go out there representing ECCS and Karaka School!
Meitaki maata (thank you very much),
Anna Powrie
