Issue 13: Week 3, Term 2 2025
Principal's Message - Karere a te Tumuaki

Kia ora e te whānau,
We’re already into Week 3, and it’s been a busy and positive start to the term!
Last Friday was a real highlight—our Book Character Dress-Up Day was such fun! It was fantastic to see students (and staff!) fully embracing the theme with so many clever and creative costumes. A big congratulations to the students who received class awards for their outfits. Ka mau te wehi! The Book Fair is still running before and after school until Thursday afternoon—thank you for your support so far and we hope you’re enjoying browsing and buying. As you can see in this week's photos, Clifford has made a very popular appearance these past couple of days and is doing well to drum up support for the Book Fair (or maybe there are a few Intermediate students who love to dress up in a red suit and enjoy feeling like a rock star for a day.......!).
We are pleased to share that our ERO (Education Review Office) visit this week went very well. The reviewers were impressed with the strong sense of community at Karaka School - which both Mr Dyer and I tautoko 100%. A huge thank you to everyone who helped welcome the team and supported this important process, and to the Board for their constant and unwavering support of our school. We look forward to sharing the published review document once it has been finalised by the ERO team in a few week's time.
This Friday is Pink Shirt Day, an initiative that promotes kindness and inclusion. We’re inviting all students, staff, and parents (if you're popping in) to wear something pink to show your support—whether it’s a small accessory or a full pink outfit, it's completely up to you! Gold coin donations will go toward this very worthy cause. We’ll also be holding an assembly at 1.45pm on Friday where some of our Pink Shirt Day activities will be on display.
Looking ahead, a reminder that Friday 30th May is a Teacher Only Day. This means students will enjoy a four-day weekend with King’s Birthday on the following Monday—although our teachers will be hard at work with professional learning on the Friday.
Finally, our Quiz Night on Saturday 7th June is fast approaching! Tables are selling quickly, so make sure to secure yours soon—it’s shaping up to be a really fun night out. A big thank you to those who have already brought in donations for the mystery bags and prizes. We really appreciate your generosity.
Ngā mihi nui,
Anna Powrie

The uniform shop now stocks long navy trackpants. Please call into the uniform shop on a Monday morning 8.15-9.00am to order or otherwise you can order through Kindo.
