Issue 6: Week 7, Term 1 2025
Principal's Message - Karere a te Tumuaki

Kia ora and welcome to the newsletter edition for Week 7. There is absolutely no doubt that the highlight of this week has been the arrival of Harold the Giraffe (along with our Life Education teacher Holly). Even Robbie Dog was excited to spend some time with Harold in the Life Ed caravan yesterday as you can see in the photo attached! If your child has yet to visit the caravan, they'll enjoy their first visit before the end of the week is out.
Last Wednesday we had an awesome bunch of students represent our school at the ECCS Swimming Sports run by our very own Mrs Sutton. I was really proud of all of our swimmers on the day, and I want to say a special congratulations to Elizabeth C and Aysia C who have both made it through to Counties on Friday. We have a whole lot of swimming certificates to present at this Thursday's assembly (both for school swimming sports and ECCS), although we will hold off presenting all the Year 5&6 certificates until the Week 9 assembly due to so many of them being out at ECCS Football.
Next Friday (21st March) we have our first of two Teacher Only Days for the year, where school will be closed for instruction. All our teachers will be offsite at Ardmore School (along with the staff from Ardmore, Alfriston, Ramarama, Hunua, Ngākõroa and Paparimu schools) to unpack the refreshed Mathematics curriculum. KAS will be operating in the Hall for parents who require supervision for their children on that day and bookings can be made via their website.
This Friday we look forward to seeing as many children as possible at the PTA's 'Summer Disco' in the Hall. We hold two discos during the school year and we are sure this one will be as popular as ever - the teachers have been practicing their dance skills too! Please make sure you have purchased your tickets via Kindo and remember, the cut off for hot food pre-orders is today.
And that's all from me - see you at the Disco on Friday if not before!
Ngā mihi nui,
Anna Powrie

Sports Camp 2025
Would your business like to be one of this years sponsors for our Intermediate 2025 sports camp team?
Every year in Term 2, Karaka School take a large number of Intermediate students to sports camp to compete in up to 40 different sports, against other schools for cups.
Your name would appear on the back of their sports camp hoodie, which then becomes part of the Karaka School uniform for the rest of the year.
Please email Kim Sutton if you are interested for your business to be a sponsor in 2025 - kims@karaka.school.nz
