Issue 5: Week 6, Term 1 2025
Principal's Message - Karere a te Tumuaki

Kia ora koutou and welcome to this week's edition of the newsletter. Now that we're officially past the half way mark of the term, it's a good chance to reflect on what a great start to the year we have had.
A special thanks from me to our awesome team of teachers for the effort and care they put into sharing their student's learning goals at the first round of 3 Way Conferences that were held last night. Thanks also to those families who made the effort to come and be such a valuable part of the home-school partnership that helps set our learners up for the year. Pateke parents can look forward to having theirs next Tuesday - we appreciate your understanding and compassion while Ms Waters and her family are unwell. And a special shout out to the Board for their delicious baking for the teacher's afternoon tea, and to Hayley Govorko for organising a really yummy dinner for us too!
Now that our conferences are over, Mr Dyer and his production team can focus their attention on the next big community event - our Peter Pan Production. Auditions for speaking parts were held earlier this week and very soon the main characters will be cast. All classes are busy learning their dances and it's looking pretty good from the glimpses I've seen. Please make sure you have saved the date for both the matinee (1pm) and evening (7pm) performances on Thursday the 10th of April. Details about how to purchase tickets will come out in the next couple of weeks. We also have our class and individual photos on that same morning - which means everyone will have pretty hair for the performances!
Next week we have the Life Education Caravan back on site for two weeks (it will be a super special treat for our younger learners who have never had the chance to meet Harold the Giraffe before). Next Friday, March 14th, we have our PTA Summer Disco (make sure you order your tickets and yummy food on Kindo). And today we have a group of Year 6-8 swimmers representing Karaka at the ECCS competition - good luck to all those down at Massey Park, we look forward to hearing how you get on.
Have a great rest of the week.
Ngā mihi nui,
Anna Powrie
