Issue 31: Week 1, Term 4 2024
Principal's Message - Karere a te Tumuaki
Fakaalofa lahi atu - not only is it the first week of Term 4, it is also Niuean Language Week. And what an awesome start to the term it has been.
I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays. As you can see from the photo attached, we had an awesome team of staff, parents and students who finished their holidays on Sunday by participating in the Pink Ribbon Walk to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness and Research. What an awesome effort - and you definitely emulate the phrase 'pretty in pink'!
This week we have kicked off Term 4 with every class receiving a free lesson with Sue from the 'St John's in Schools' programme. I'm sure if you ask your child, they'll be able to share some really practical things they have learnt from these sessions. And on Friday we have our 'Hungerball' training sessions for each class - you may remember Hungerball from Ag Day when it was set up down on the field. We are lucky enough to have the Hungerball arena at school this term and it will be located in the Hall for students to utilise. Another awesome opportunity for our Karaka students.
As with the start of any term, there are always a few reminders that link to the season. For Term 4, it is the reminder that students will need their hats at school every day or they may find from next week on they have to play in the shaded areas (and therefore not able to access the field, turf or playground), if they don't have one. I have been assured that the PTA have plenty of stock, so if you need to purchase one just pop in and see Lynley Alderson on Monday mornings before school in the uniform shop, or purchase one on Kindo and it will be sent home with your child from school.
Our Junior Team is excited about their trip to the Due Drop Events Centre tomorrow to watch the stage show of Mrs Wishy Washy (I might just be equally excited to be going along with them!). Thank you to the PTA for paying the costs to allow this event to go ahead. And our Senior team has been busy preparing for the upcoming Athletics events in Week 3, with some of the heats for the longer events (such as the 200m, 400m & 800m races) being held during fitness and lunchtimes. It's great to see the effort everyone is putting in to make the start of Term 4 so positive.
We hope to see as many people as are able to come at our Powhiri on Monday at 10:30am. We look forward to welcoming all the students and their families who have joined us since the start of Term 3 this year. Lastly, remember that next Friday (25/10) school will be closed for instruction, making for an extra long Labour Weekend.
Ngā mihi nui,

Yummy Apple Stickers
Please return all Yummy Apple Sticker forms by this Friday. All stickers count - it doesn't matter if the page hasn't been completed. These go towards getting new sports equipment for our School.
Please check out above the clubs that are offered to our students at morning tea time, lunchtime and after school.
Payment Reminders -
- Bus fees are due within the first two weeks of the term
- Have you remembered to pay for your fees / class trips / camps etc. Being Term 4 it would be great if all outstanding payments are made to clear everything up before the end of year. Please check your Kindo accounts to find all your financial details.
End of Year Trophies
We are starting to collect in all the trophies awarded at last year's prizegiving. Please can you return these to school by the 11th of November, undamaged and in a clean condition so we can get them ready for this year's event. Thanks
Ag Day
Ag Day Trophies
Please return all Ag Day trophies in order for them to be engraved. They will be taken to the engravers this Friday (18th) so please return them this week. You get to keep your miniatures.
Carpark Space
There is a special car park space just outside the office that was won in the auction at Ag Day. This space is for the Rhodes and Smith families only for Term 4 parking. Please do not park in this space. Thank you.
