Principal's Message - Karere a te Tumuaki
Kia ora and welcome to the Week 7 edition of the Newsletter. I hope Fathers Day on Sunday provided the chance for people to connect with family and loved ones. Last Friday we had a wonderful turnout of support for Daffodil Day and the Cancer Society - everyone looked so bright and cheerful in their yellow clothes and accessories! You'll see in the photo on the right that two of our Intermediate students (Reid H and Ella S) went the extra mile; they volunteered at Pak'n'Save Pukekohe selling daffodils on behalf of the Cancer Society after school on Friday - well done to the two of you!
On Friday our Year 5&6 Team arrived home from camp after an amazing week down at Lakewood Lodge. The students had an amazing time giving new activities a try such as horse riding, kayaking, archery, flying fox just to name a few. I was lucky enough to accompany some of the groups up to survival where they had to build a shelter (which then had its waterproof level tested with a bucket of water thrown on top whilst they were inside....), cook their lunch AND dinner over an open fire (which I have to say was tastier than it sounds!), and then share camp songs and stories around the giant fire pit. Pretty special experiences. A huge thank you to our amazing teachers (Mrs Redshaw, Miss Agate and Mrs Christensen) for all the planning and preparation that went into making the camp so successful, as well as the time spent out there with the kids last week. They really did make the experience an unforgettable one for so many. And of course a huge thank you to the parent volunteers who took time out of their own busy lives (and jobs) to go to camp: Lisa Tate, Brad Harvey, Jessie Wakeling, Navin Singh, Josh Harvey, Jason Foster, Tyrone Riley, Janice Blank and Leanda Childs. You all pitched in and assimilated into camp life so easily and were a wonderful support for the students and the teachers - we appreciate you!
Yesterday, we hosted the Hunua Principals Association zone speech finals here at school with contestants from nine of the schools in our cluster. We were extremely proud of our two Karaka students who delivered speeches of a very high standard. Congratulations to Ella H (Year 7&8) and Jack A (Year 5&6) - it is an awesome achievement to make it to the HPA finals and you should be very proud of yourselves.
And that's all from me this week. Ag Day preparation is definitely ramping up and everyone is working hard behind the scenes to pull everything together. Hard to believe we're only a week and a bit away!!
