Issue 20: Week 10, Term 2 2024
Principal's Message - Karere a te Tumuaki
Kia ora Karaka friends and whānau.
Here we are in the midst of both Matariki celebrations and the end of Term 2. In the spirit of Matariki, it is apt for me to reflect upon the year we've had so far, and I can't help but feel really grateful for our amazing staff and what they've accomplished, our fantastic Board and PTA, and of course our Karaka learners - which is who we are all here for at the end of the day! I'm sure over the coming term the Ag Day Committee will start to feel things ramping up if they haven't already - I know chickens are due to be delivered Week 1 next term and fence palings are flying out of the hall foyer (thanks Natalie!). If I don't get the chance to say it enough, then Matariki is the time - thank you to all of you for making our kura and its community so special!
While our community enjoyed the extra long weekend, our teachers enjoyed the chance to network and learn alongside the other schools in our Kāhui Ako on Monday at our Mega-Meet held at Rosehill Intermediate. Ten out of the 13 schools that make up our Kāhui Ako attended the conference and it was awesome to be able to connect with teachers from our neighbouring schools. Perry Rush (previous New Zealand Principals Federation President and current PLD provider with Tui Tuia Learning Circle at Auckland University) was the Key Note speaker; he was able to give us a little bit of insight and a positive way to navigate through the upcoming changes in education. Thank you for supporting us in our mahi during our last Teacher Only Day for 2024.
Last Thursday, we were lucky to have the perfect weather for our Cross Country (although legend has it that Mrs Sutton never fails to come through with the weather for this event year after year!). Ka pai to everyone who participated, and thank you to everyone who made it to school to support at some stage during the morning. I want to say thanks once again to Hayley and her Artz on Show team for sponsoring the coffee cart - I know I indulged in more than one coffee that day and it was much appreciated!
Tonight we look forward to welcoming Rob Cope for the 'Our Kids Online' parents evening and we hope to see as many of you there as possible. And tomorrow we can't wait to have everyone here for Market Day - classes have been working hard on this all term and I want to thank the teachers for all their hard work that has gone into our 2024 Market Day. Please be mindful of parking tomorrow - it may be very busy.
Lastly, as last couple of days of term draw near, we want to wish Mrs Fielder and Mrs Fong all the very best as they head off on Maternity Leave. They have both done an admiral job in Mokomoko over the first half of the year and we know those students and their families will miss them next term. We have told them that visits and snuggles with their new arrivals is a must! I have also warned any teacher that heads into Mokomoko space to not drink the water from those taps and to use their own water bottles.....watch this space 😜
That's all from me - have a safe and happy holiday.
Ngā mihi nui,
Anna Powrie

Notes from the Office
We have a LOT of Lost Property, and we would really like it if you could help us with this!
It’s my job to clean it up so here is a list of helpful tips:
- NAME your child's clothing, shoes, lunch box, drink bottle etc.
- Only take your own NAMED clothing, or any unnamed items, which are free to a good home.
- Please keep the Lost Property Box neat and tidy if you are looking through it.
There is a list of some of these rules and more information by the Lost Property Box to help you.
Please help me keep the Lost Property Box clean and tidy.
Thank you from Sophie T
