Issue 17: Week 7, Term 2 2024
Principal's Message - Karere a te Tumuaki
Kia ora Karaka friends and whānau. Last week sure ended on a high with our Book Week Parade and then Assembly in the afternoon. I'm sure everyone was as impressed as I was with the time and effort that went into everyone's costumes. My daughter got herself up at 5:45am to do her own 'Cindy Lou Who' hair style (which I have to say I was secretly impressed with!). And anyone who was fortunate enough to witness the staff's Peter Pan roleplay on stage will no doubt tell you that it was loaded with impromptu laughs and some crazy antics from Mr Dyer and his oscar-winning 'Shadow' (aka Mrs Redshaw).
On Saturday night the PTA ran their Mid-Winter Quiz - and it really was a fabulous event. The Hall was completely transformed; the atmosphere felt almost magical with Christmas trees and candles and our awesome DJ Rob coming through with the Christmas tunes. Andrew and Lynley Alderson really looked the part as our amazing Quiz Masters and kept everyone up to date with the running totals for each team. Renee, Stu and their team of amazing PTA parents outdid themselves with the behind the scenes (and behind the bar) work before, during, and after the event. The packdown on Sunday also went without a hitch - the saying 'many hands make light work' is still as true as ever! And seeing this first Quiz night run by our current PTA turned out to be such a success, we're pretty sure they're keen to add it to the School Calendar as an annual event. Thank you to our fabulous PTA!!!
This week we not only have many of our Year 7&8's off to Sports Camp (no doubt there'll be plenty of updates coming through on HERO over the next few days), we also have a group of very creative and very committed Year 5&6 students off to the 'Eye on Nature Wearable Arts' event. These students, under the support and guidance of Mrs Christensen, have designed and created some absolutely mindblowing outfits to enter. The Dress Rehearsal and official photoshoot for the judging was today at the Due Drop Centre (see the pics below) and the actual event is tomorrow evening. A huge ka pai to the following students: Group 1 - Charlotte T, Georgia B and Harper A; Group 2 - Sophia G, Sienna W and Chloe S; Group 3 - Hazel G, Chelsea L and Grace C. Your outfits look red carpet worthy!! And an extra thank you to the parents who have spent numerous mornings in Pukeko before school (and goodness knows how many extra hours at home) helping out - Lisa Tate, Simon Tate, Crystal Orr, Adel Schicker, Nigel Allen and Katrina Gault.
One last heads up for Week 9 is that our school Cross-Country is scheduled for Thursday the 27th of June (save day in case of the weather is Tuesday 2nd of July). This usually kicks off first thing in the morning and is over by lunch time - more details will be sent out next week.
And that's all from me.
Ngā mihi nui,
Anna Powrie
