Issue 13: Week 3, Term 2 2024
Principal's Message - Karere a te Tumuaki
Kia ora and welcome to our Week 3 Newsletter. I hope you enjoyed some time with family on Sunday for Mother's Day (I saw some lovely cards being made by the students at school on Friday to take home).
Last Thursday we had a lot of fun coming to school in our warm PJs, onesies and oodies on such a chilly morning. Check out this cute pic of Miss Agate, Mrs Fong, Mrs Kenny and Miss Cheyne with their Winnie the Pooh themed outfits - Winnie had three Eeyores to hang out with for the day!
This week the staff are gearing up to put on our 'Pink Breakfast' for Pink Shirt Day this Friday. All the food is bought/donated and cooked by the staff so that all the ticket proceeds can be sent in to support the Pink Shirt Day cause. We are also collecting gold coins from students for our 'Pink Mufti Day' which will also be collated and sent in. By taking part in Pink Shirt Day, our school/kura is a part of a powerful movement across NZ to spread aroha and kindness and end bullying. We hope you will also get behind us on Friday and maybe even wear a pink shirt to work!
Another special day to celebrate in the school calendar is 'Support Staff Day' which falls on Thursday May 16th this year. This is a day where we try to show our amazing support staff (Office Staff, Teacher Aides and of course our amazing Caretaker) just how much we value them. They work selflessly for our school, our students and their families, and while sometimes this can go under the radar, on Thursday we have some suprises up our sleeve to ensure they feel appreciated.
And to end our newletter this week, I have a bit of school trivia that Mr Good (our awesome caretaker whom I mentioned above) came to tell me earlier this week. He's not 100% sure when in 1924 they were planted, but he does know that the two Norfolk Pines that are just to the right of the Bus Bay at the front of the school turn 100 years old this year. I thought that was a pretty cool fact to share.
Ngā mihi nui,
Anna Powrie

Uniform - Important reminders
With the wet winter weather arriving please remember to ensure your child has their school jersey, a raincoat and covered in shoes. That way we can keep the winter colds at bay!
Now seems to be a good time for a few reminders about wearing our school uniform with pride.
- Please make sure that your child(ren) is wearing the correct uniform each day. If your child has lost an item, please check the lost property box. We have some uniform items that we can loan people available at the office but these must be returned.
- It is important that all uniform items are named. This is so we can return lost items to their correct owner.
- Please make sure the correct shoes or sandals are worn also - navy (dark) blue or black only.
- Plain socks, tights, tracksuit pants and thermals can be worn providing they are navy (dark) blue or black only and do not have any branding or patterning.
- Remember to tie back hair and please leave the multi coloured and/or large bows and other hair accessories for the weekends. Navy blue, black and red hair ties and clips that match with our uniform only please.
- If your child is not wearing the correct uniform they will be reminded of what the expectation is. We will follow this up with a call home to see what support we can offer if the incorrect uniform continues to be worn.
We appreciate that there has not always been consistency of expectation, so we are looking at ensuring that there is moving forward. Wearing the correct uniform demonstrates our values of Respect (whakaute) and Excellence (hiranga) and therefore is important at our place of learning. Please support us with the development of these values, by ensuring your child is wearing the correct uniform.
Let us know if you need any help with uniform items, we are happy to help.
